Introducing Erin M. Copenhaver, PA-C, CHC

For 12 years Erin worked as a PA in Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. Following the birth of her second child in 2010, she began to experience her own health struggles. The multiple years and providers it took to get a diagnosis frustrated Erin and she began doing research to figure out how her own diagnosis had been missed. Additionally, she became passionate about helping her patients and others avoid a similar fate. After being treated by Gene Blake, Erin found renewed health and energy, and she decided to pursue a health coaching certification. She started her own business, Charleston Wellness Coach, coaching both adults and children to incorporate healthy habits into their everyday lives.

In her search for answers Erin discovered the world of Functional Medicine. Functional Medicine focuses on figuring out WHY people are sick by getting to the root causes and addressing the triggers as opposed to labeling a patient with a diagnosis and prescribing a medication. Functional Medicine renewed Erin’s passion for the field of medicine. She began working with lifestyle modifications and preventative measures for her patients which yield many more rewarding benefits than medications alone. She is currently pursuing formal training from the Institute for Functional Medicine, which is the one of the highest standards in the field.

A shared passion and interest inspired Gene and Erin to begin working together to develop protocols to help women with Hashimoto’s and other complex health conditions. By working to get at the root causes of illness they are able to help women heal themselves, prevent further illness and live their best lives. Additionally, their inspiration is derived from knowing that, by helping women heal and be healthy, they are helping families thrive and be healthy as well.

Erin grew up in Coldwater, Michigan, received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Michigan. After college she moved to New York City where she was an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and worked in the restaurant industry. She completed her Masters of Health Science/Physician Assistant Studies in 2005 at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She practiced allergy for three years in Manhattan. In 2008 she moved to Charleston with her husband, Will, and they have since had two young children, Caroline and Pierce.  Outside of work Erin enjoys travel, the outdoors, quality time with family and friends as well as exercise and all things wellness!
